We all like a good story, especially a miracle…so here’s one of mine!

Back in 1980 I met a bunch of American students on an exchange program in London. Inspired by their love for life and their confidence to be successful in anything they put their hands to, I took the phrase “Carpe Diem” to heart. Boarded a Freddie Laker Sky Train and landed in New York City with a portfolio the size of a flat screen tv on January 23rd 1981. I had just turned twenty, had 3 weeks to find a job with no interviews set up and thanks to God and a wonderful Art Director named Hy Rosen, I sat in the reception of Young & Rubicam with a blank sheet of paper and a blunt pencil and wrote out my resume.

Two and a half weeks later I was given a position as staff illustrator at Diamond Art Studios on 53rd & Madison.
